Last Updated Wednesday 9th February, 2022

Adelaide is famous for its festivals – South Australia is known as ‘the festival state’ - and there’s so much to see and do all year round. With so many incredible institutions to choose from, Adelaide is also a world-renowned student city, and there are many events created specifically for you, as a student!

We’ve collected a list of what you need to check out now that South Australia is open for business.

Adelaide Fringe Festival

Perhaps the most famous festival hosted in the festival state, the Adelaide Fringe runs for a whole month during February and March. It’s the largest arts festival in the Southern Hemisphere and attracts acts from all over the world, from comedy to circus, cabaret, music, theatre, visual art and much, much more. Fringe tickets vary in price, but some are free or cheap on certain days of the week. Some even have student discounts!

One great way to enjoy a taste of the Fringe is to wander through the Garden of Unearthly Delights, a vibrant space located at the end of Rundle Street filled with performance spaces, carnival rides, market stalls, bars and delicious world food – entry is free and it’s a beautiful place to spend an evening with friends soaking up the atmosphere.

Student Fest

Student Fest is StudyAdelaide’s own Adelaide Fringe event just for international students, and is hosted at Gluttony, one of the most popular Fringe venues. This free event for international students is an opportunity to experience the festival spirit of Adelaide on 18 March. Come along and enjoy performances and entertainment by a selection of fabulous Fringe acts and some of South Australia’s most talented international student performers, as well as delicious food and drinks.

Students Got Talent

Students Got Talent is an exciting talent show for domestic and international students – and tickets are free. On 12 February, 11 finalists will showcase their talents at the Dunstan Playhouse in the hopes of winning over $2,000 in prize money. Talents this year will include singing, dancing, rapping and roller skating, and finalists will represent countries such as Nepal, Philippines, Taiwan, Vietnam, Indonesia, Burundi and Australia. Maybe this year’s performers will inspire you to start thinking about a talent of your own for next year…

Regional Tours in South Australia

Outside the city if Adelaide, South Australia is full of exciting places to explore.

Look out for regional tours throughout the year to explore the incredible landscapes and wildlife of Kangaroo Island or go whale spotting at Victor Harbor.

You can look forward to ongoing events like movie afternoons and English conversation groups for international students throughout 2022.

When you’re not busy having fun, Adelaide also has many opportunities for employment for students.

There are hundreds of part-time and casual roles available to boost your resume and your income (to help fund your adventures) – check out Job Shop to help you get started!
